PAWSome Kids Club

PAWS is pleased to announce the launch of our PAWSome Kids Club! This club meets eight times a year, on Saturday mornings from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. It is open to children ages 6 - 12 years of age who love dogs and cats and are enthusiastic about learning responsible pet ownership and care for the animals while having fun!

Each meeting will allow the children to learn to make a difference in the lives of animals through hands-on interaction with the animals at PAWS, as well as animal themed arts and crafts enrichment projects, games, discussions with PAWS volunteers and guest speakers and other planned activities and events. Children will learn what happens behind the scenes at PAWS, participating in how to properly care for the animals and their living areas. Activities will teach children to build confidence in animal interaction and companionship, working with others in a respectful and confident way, and build friendships with other Club members, staff, and volunteers at PAWS.

This is a drop-off and pick-up Club. Before and after daycare is not available.

Registration and Payment:

The annual fee for Club membership is $155, which includes, but is not limited to: all activities, materials, snacks, a Club t-shirt, a Club face mask, gloves and booties, membership card, name tag and lanyard. The deadline to secure a spot in the Club for the 2021-2022 session is Friday, August 20, 2021.

Registration and payment must be submitted to secure participant's spot. Registration is limited to 20 children and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Due to limited enrollment, there are no refunds. Sorry no exceptions.

Where to Be and When:

The PAWSome Kids Club will meet at Centre County PAWS located at 1401 Trout Road, State College, PA. Children should enter through the lower level located in the back of the building. Club leaders will arrive at 9:45 to open the doors and greet parents, and club members. All participants must be signed in by a parent or caregiver each meeting. Photo ID will be required to pick-up children.

What to Wear:

Club members should dress in clothes that are appropriate activewear clothing for sometimes messy activities. T-shirts will be provided at the first Club meeting and can be worn during future Club meetings. Closed-toed shoes are required. For safety reasons, children wearing open-toed shoes may not be allowed to participate in some activities.

What to Bring:

Some activities may take place outdoors. Children are encouraged to bring sunscreen on sunny days. PAWS will provide insect repellent for outside activities on warmer days. Warm clothing should be worn on cooler days. Water will be provided.

In Case of Emergency:

In case of an emergency during the Club meeting times, PAWS staff will contact you using the information you provided with your registration. If we cannot reach a parent or caregiver, we will leave a message and attempt to reach the person(s) listed as emergency contacts. If this information needs to be updated after you register, please notify staff.

Club Staff:

All Club staff and/or volunteers are certified through Darkness to Light - Child Stewardship (or its equivalent) have criminal background checks, and child abuse background clearances. All Club staff and/or volunteers follow the best policies as taught in the Stewardship classes. All Club staff are veteran PAWS employees and volunteers.

Club Behavior:

All Club members are expected to treat other children, staff, and animals with respect and compassion. Behavior guidelines will be reviewed with children at the first Club meeting date. Participants who do not follow these guidelines may be asked to leave for the remainder of the Club meeting. No refunds will be available to those who are dismissed for behavioral reasons.

COVID-19 Information:

PAWS follows the recommended guidelines set by the CDC, State, and Local government agencies. When guidelines change, we will update our policies which can be found on our website at All visitors, staff, and volunteers will hand sanitize before and after all interactions if hand washing is not possible. We practice reasonable social distancing by staying 6 feet apart as much as possible. Masks are required inside the building. Certain activities may also require wearing surgical gloves and booties which will be provided to the children by PAWS. For the time being those without masks will not be permitted into the building.
