Celebrating Our New PAWS Facility Photos

Autumn of 2007 was a busy and exciting one at Centre County PAWS.   Two ribbon cuttings were held in early September to herald the opening of our new Adoption and Education Center on Trout Road.  The move itself happened on September 22nd and the Grand Opening was held the following weekend.  Photos of these events and The Blessing of Animals on October 7th are posted below for your enjoyment.

The Volunteer Ribbon Cutting was held on Sunday, September 9, 2007.  It was a special time for everyone in attendance.  Our hardworking and faithful  volunteers really are the heart and soul of PAWS.   Without them PAWS could not exist.  A highlight of the ribbon cutting party was the surprise announcement that the Cat Intake Room is dedicated to Debbie Bezilla's tireless efforts at PAWS.  Debbie is a founding member of PAWS and since December of 1980 has seen it grow from an organization that operated out of the volunteers' homes to the current one which operates at the new center.

The Official Ribbon Cutting for the new PAWS Adoption and Education Center was held September 10, 2007.  It was gratifying to have so many public officials and generous donors in attendance.  PAWS needs and appreciates the support.  We were pleased to have Wilbur Zelinsky, the husband of  Gladys Zelinsky one of the original founders of PAWS, participate. The PAWS dogs had their very own version of a ribbon to cut and their representatives sure seemed to enjoy munching on it.

Moving day, September 22, 2007!    Whether asked to clean, pack, lift, transport or unpack, our PAWS volunteers came through again and accomplished the move into the new center.  As always there was shared comaraderie and fun too.  We celebrated Carla's birthday,  had lunch together and even got to see the very first  PAWS adoption at the new center.  Former PAWS dog, Daisy, got her new best friend, Moka, officially.   Calvin,  a PAWS cat, was the mascot for our move.  Special thanks to April for coordinating so much of the packing and moving.

The Grand Opening of the new PAWS Adoption and Education Center took place the weekend of September 29th.  There were balloons, snacks, tours, free raffle of stuffed animals and, most importantly,  an adoption weekend for PAWS animals as usual.

On October 7, 2007, Father Matthew Lafferty blessed the animals and the building. This was held in conjunction with the feast day of St. Francis of Assissi, the patron saint of animals.   The public was invited to bring their animals for this special ceremony.
