More Information ...
BasieMale, Domestic ShorthairDOB: 04/17/08 Basie is the lone jazz kitten still up for adoption. His two natural siblings and his two adoptive siblings raised by surrogate mom, Ella, are all making music in their forever homes. Basie is longing to "swing" into a home of his own too, as is his mom, who is listed separately on this page. Basie is friendly and exceedingly handsome. And unlike so many "teenagers" who resist being toted about, Basie doesn't complain at all. He just relaxes and enjoys the ride! Basie has grown quite a bit since the evening he came to paws as a tiny orphan in need of a mom. He'll make a great companion. (Basie will be neutered before adoption). |

TitanMale (neutered), Domestic ShorthairDOB: 03/03/08 Such a big, powerful name for a dear, shy little boy! But wait a minute! This just in from "Mr. T's" foster dad: September 26, 2008 As official foster dad of this fantastic kid, I have to admit that the thought of giving him up is very hard for me. All Paws volunteers share one thing in common, we love them all, but this guy is really special. In all the years of working with cats as a foster dad, only one other time have I had a cat take my heart completely and she lives with me to this day. Mr. T did so with one gesture. When he arrived, I put him in a cage so that he could settle down. He promptly went to the box and did his business. I got the scoop, sat down on the floor and opened the door to his cage. He was right there and out in a flash. Typical kitten/cat behavior right? He stopped at my feet, looked around a bit and promptly came back, jumped my legs and went back into the cage. As I tried to use the scoop, he was all over my arm and in the way so I pushed him aside. He simply jumped my arm and came out into my lap where he plopped down like king of the mountain. He purred and kneaded away as I finished my box duty. Mr. T. is a first class clown, lap cat, and overall delight. And, he gets along with 7 other adult cats, two of which are teaching him the rules of the house. He learns fast. If you are the wise and lucky person to select Mr. T, you’ll have to start slowly, get down on the floor, play with him a bit, then offer your hand while saying his name. He will be beside you and then in your lap before you know it. ----Jack (We've said it before and we'll say it again -- what you see quivering and trying to disappear through the far corner of a cage in a shelter SO OFTEN is not at all the kitty you see at home. If there ever was an example, Titan, a.k.a. "Mr. T", is it)! |

MoiseMale-neutered, Domestic ShorthairAge: 8 yrs. (in September 2008) Front declawed Moise (pronounced mo-eez') is a big guy with a big personality to match. He likes affection and petting. He often instigates the affection himself by coming over and rubbing into your legs or even jumping onto your lap. But when he's had enough, he's had enough, so pay attention to his body language, please. It would be to Moise's benefit to lose some weight, so extra playtime with this big boy might be fun for him and his adopter. |

Maid MarianFemale (spayed), Domestic ShorthairAge: 1 year (in September 2008) Tall, slender, lithe and pretty, young Maid Marian has managed to keep her youthful figure despite mothering six sweet kittens (the “Candy kids” we called them….with names like Hershey, Reeses, Snickers, etc.). In fact, if she were still with us (which we don’t expect her to be) when we have our next Fashion Show, Marian would be the perfect runway model! Her foster mom has this to say about her: “Maid Marian is such a great cat! She is very social and loves everyone (even strangers) as soon as she meets them. She stays in whatever room I’m in and follows me around the house. She is very playful, full of energy and loves her little mouse toys. When I’m watching TV or reading, she enjoys sitting on my lap and taking a nap. But her favorite thing is to sit and watch what’s going on outside the window. Marian’s bathroom habits are impeccable, no accidents. She does love to explore, so I don’t leave food on the counter because she can jump surprisingly high. I never have had a cat before and I was surprised how easy it is to take care of her and how sweet of a cat she is. I can’t wait for her to find a loving home but I will definitely miss her!” ---Stefanie |

BenjiMale, Domestic ShorthairAge: ~8 wks. (in August 2008) Benji, who arrived at PAWS as a scared and wide-eyed kitten, is now a playful and handsome tabby. He's still wide-eyed, but not out of nervousness. He's got gorgeous eyes and is a really nice little guy. |

Mr. JigglesMale (neutered), Domestic Medium HairDOB: 04/24/08 Well as you can see from his photo, there are times that Mr. Jiggles doesn't jiggle. He is a really playful little guy though too. His hair looks short, but there are tufts of longer hair mixed in. |

Little SpiceFemale, Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 05/19/08 Little Spice is pretty and petite. Click for larger photo to see a different photo of her. Here's what foster mom has to say about her: "Little Spice's markings are unique and striking. Her personality is curious and loving. She is a playful kitten and is not afraid to engage with the older kittens in the foster home that she shares with several cats and dogs. She may be a little shy at first, but it won't take her long to melt your heart and become a welcome addition to your family." |

Cinder and HermioneFemale (spayed), Domestic ShorthairLeft: Hermione, DOB: 04/20/08 Right: Cinder, DOB: 05/04/08 Cinder and Hermione are from different litters, but now that all of their respective siblings have been adopted, they're good friends. Either would be a delightful little pet or both would make a great pair for their eventual adopter. They watched as one by one their siblings were adopted. Now it's their turn! Please click for larger image to see how tiny they were when they first came to PAWS. They're extremely beautiful as slightly older kittens now though as you can see. |

PrincessFemale (spayed), Domestic shorthairDOB: 05/10/08 Yes, I'm a Princess and I look and pose just like one. But don't let my royal name or my regal pose fool you. When it comes to playfulness and fun, I don't let being royalty inhibit me in any way. I'm feeling lonely now that my 3 siblings, Bandit, Foxie and Paint, with whom I was previously listed here, have been adopted. Isn't anyone out there looking for Princess to call their own? |

ElliotHandsome, quiet, special guy needs a special homeMale (neutered), Domestic Shorthair, FIV+Age: 2-3 years old as of February 2008 Ask at the front desk to see if we are at the center this weekend and, if so, to visit my buddy Fingers and me before visiting the other cats. ! Read about Fingers and me in "A Tail of Two Kitties", copy available at the Front Desk and one in our room. Look forward to seeing ya! --ElliotClick here to read "A Tale of Two Kitties: The Friendship of Elliot and Fingers" online.Well, Spring has come and gone and Summer is well on its way, but I’m still here! My name is Elliot. I’m a handsome fellow (so they tell me) and a good guy (though I’ve had trouble learning to trust people again). Life wasn’t very good to me before I came to PAWS....I really can’t tell you where I came from, but I spent the better part of last winter out in the wind, wet and cold getting beat upon by other cats who didn’t want to share what little they had with me. I was what everyone calls a “stray“. In cat lore, that’s not a good thing. Luckily, a young couple took me in for a little while and saw to it that I got to safety at PAWS. First thing PAWS did was to test me for a couple of the more common feline diseases. As fate would have it, I tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). I'm feeling great now and chances are I'll be feelin' good for a long time to come. But this is a whole other story, and I hope you’ll take the time to learn all about it by clicking the link below. Second thing PAWS did was to send me to a foster home where I could have a BIG room all to myself, separated from the other resident cats. I get great food here and lots of love and encouragement from my foster mom, but I guess you could call me a slow learner in the confidence-building department. It’s coming, ever-so-slowly, but I need a home of my own and my own person who doesn’t have to share her time with so many others. If you have no other cats, or if you have another FIV+ cat who could use a friend, please give me a chance! I won’t give you any trouble. I ask only for your love, kindness and understanding, and I WILL come out from under the bed eventually. :) NEWS FLASH! Yes, Spring has come and gone and Summer is well on its way, but….that new life Elliot was so hoping for has begun. And it’s come in the name of “Fingers”! |

SunshineFemale (spayed), Domestic ShorthairAge: ~ 1.5 years (in August 2008) Sunshine is a very sweet cat. She's one of those cats who is very shy around people on adoption days. When she's alone with a volunteer at the center though, she's openly very affectionate. She'll be just a terrific little pal in a home setting. |

| .................................................................................................................................................................................. |
TealFemale (spayed), Domestic ShorthairDOB: 06/29/05 Front Declawed Teal is a friendly and all around lovely cat, both in temperament and physical beauty. Although she was a bit nervous at the Adoption Center at first, she grew more comfortable over time and has come to genuinely enjoy getting affection from the volunteers. She has claimed one of the sunrooms as her own and looks forward to touring the hallway while the volunteers clean "her" room. She now actively seeks out attention and gets along well with her roomie, Shiloh....although occasionally they have a little "discussion" as to who owns the room! Teal is really anxious to find her own home though...it's definitely time! We've been told that she does not like dogs, so she's looking for a dog-free, indoor-only home....indoor-only because she's front-declawed. When you meet Teal, you'll observe one little habit that you need to know about. When she gets excited, she puts her tail straight up in the air, shakes it and prances...exactly like a cat getting ready to spray! Teal does NOT spray....at least we never have seen her spray nor have we found any evidence whatsoever that she has. So not to worry. It's all posturing....just a nervous habit which may go away once she's permanently settled in a quiet, comfortable home. |

AceMale (neutered), Domestic ShorthairDOB: 01/12/07 Ace is a handsome, friendly and lovable big boy. He enjoys being around people and, believe it or not, being held like a baby. Ace would probably do best in a home without another male cat. In fact, he’d probably love being your one and only! He's a real cuddlebug with the volunteers. From Ace’s foster mom – October 14, 2008: Ace is doing really, really well at our house. As far as we can tell, these are his favorite things: 1. Getting fed in the morning. 2. Looking out the window. 3. Having his face scratched. He'll spend hours very quietly watching squirrels, birds, and chipmunks from the window and sit as if he's ready to pounce on them! As soon as someone is awake each morning, Ace is underfoot talking to you until he gets his breakfast. He’ll make very sure you won't forget! In the evening, he will cuddle up to anyone who will pet him, especially those who will scratch his face and neck. He purrs like a kitten and will let you pet him as long as you want. Ace has occasional "kitten moments" when he's fascinated with his catnip mouse or even his tail. But, he's typically a very relaxed, quiet, next-to-your lap cat. |

EllaFemale (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 06/12/07 One of this year's momcats Delighting her chauffeur with a remarkable imitation of her incomparable namesake, Ella skat sang her way to Wiscoy on Sept. 16, where she will be in residence 7 days a week. Wiscoy is located at 424 W. Aaron Dr., State College. Let pretty Ella fill your heart and home with song! Applications are available from Wiscoy staff.Meet the Queen of Jazz, Ms. Ella (Fitzgerald)! Although not much more than a kitten herself, Ella is our undisputed Mom of the Year! Ella came to PAWS in April, and shortly thereafter gave birth to a single baby girl. She named her Rosemary (Clooney). Rosie, by the way, is growing up to be the spittin’ image of her mom! Ella was barely learning what parenting was all about when three orphaned musicians arrived at PAWS desperately in need of a mom. Ella looked them over, thought they had good potential for joining her band, and named them Basie (Count), Bix (Beiderbecke) and Benny (Goodman). Everyone had just about settled into rhythm when…..oh no, another orphan came to audition! Hey, we can improvise – that’s what jazz is all about! Dizzy (Gillespie) joined the group and all made music together until it was time for the little jazzies to move on. Whew! If anyone is ready to get some loving of HER own, it's Ella! Ella is a real sweetheart who loves affection from her person. For a time, she lived with other cats and dogs in a foster home and everyone got along fine. She wasn't buddies with any of them....heaven only knows she probably just needed some time to sing solo! At Wiscoy, visiting dogs are an everyday occurrence -- Ella calmly says hello and doesn't seem to mind them at all. Please visit Ella and let this pretty young gal jazz up your life! |

DoughnutFemale (spayed), Domestic ShorthairD.O.B. 4/3/2001 Doughnut is a very sweet treat in both looks and disposition. She has a beautifully patterned coat, and be sure to check out her unique and gorgeous eyes! Having experienced quite a bit of change over the past year, Doughnut is feeling a bit unnerved by it all, so she might seem shy on first meeting. But it doesn’t take long for her to relax and warm to your attentions. Shortly after coming to PAWS with her sister, Sweetcake, Doughnut was adopted into what she thought would be her forever home. But her adopters’ life circumstances changed and back she came to PAWS. Sister Sweetcake, with whom she’d spent her entire life prior to the recent adoption, was surprised to see her back and, frankly, wasn’t too happy about it. Sweetcake had enjoyed going it on her own and gained enough self-confidence to want things to stay that way. Now separated at the adoption center, each of them seems perfectly happy as a single. How ‘bout filling the hole in Doughnut’s life by giving her a loving new home for the holidays! And tell a friend with a sweet tooth to come out and meet Sweetcake! |

SweetcakeFemale (spayed), Domestic ShorthairDOB: 4/3/2001 Sweetcake is indeed sweet as well as beautiful, just like her sister Doughnut. She loves when the volunteers pet her, brush her and generally make a fuss over her. She also loves high places, so a nice, tall cat climber is a must in her new home....or at least something that will serve as a perch from which she can oversee the goings on below. Sweetcake lived her entire life with Doughnut until Doughnut was adopted as a single in June. Sweetcake missed her sister for awhile, but quickly came into her own without her and really wasn't too thrilled when Doughnut returned. In fact, for whatever her reasons, she tells us that guy cats are sort of okay, but she's not at all fond of being with the girls....ANY girl, not even Sis. Most of all, she wants to be adopted, but if she had her druthers, she'd prefer being your one and only. |

BingoMale (neutered), Domestic ShorthairDOB: 04/01/98, front declawed Bingo feels a little unsettled when confined at the Adoption Center. He’s a very vocal fellow who loves to tell you what’s on his mind, and what he’s tellin’ us, loud and clear, is that he wants to relax in a nice quiet home he can call his own. After being uprooted from his old home, he has spent time at PAWS and at a couple of foster homes, but what he wants and desperately needs is stability. Although he is a little uneasy around strangers….making things even worse for him at the Center…..once he calms down, he likes having his head scratched and comes running in the morning for breakfast and a nice lap to sit on. He would be happiest in a loving and patient home with nice soft places for nappin’. For more photos of Bingo, including him having fun in his foster home, please click for larger image |

He really loves to be out of his enclosure to get some love and have some playtime. He'll be a very happy boy in a loving home. |

ChloeA Lonely Hearts Club CatFemale (spayed), Domestic Shorthair YOB: 1999 Chloe is a beautiful, trusting and gentle middle-aged gal (8-9 yrs. old). When you enter her room, she welcomes you with purrs and caresses. She loves to be picked up and cuddled and will give you kisses on your face and hands. Foster mom says that Chloe puts people first and food second! She shows no interest whatsoever in eating before she has been hugged. As humans tend to be more sensitive to temperature as they grow older, Chloe likes to be warm and stays close to heating sources. But the young at heart in her still enjoys playing gently with a wand toy. She will be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a lap cat. Chloe is a special-needs cat in two respects. When she came to PAWS, she had a sore nose which didn't respond very well to standard treatment. The lesion eventually was removed, biopsied and diagnosed as pre-cancerous. Chloe does NOT have cancer, but it is important that she be kept indoors and out of the sun. She also has an eye condition known as Entropion. Entropion is a condition (found in humans too) in which the eyelids turn inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the cornea. This causes irritation, watering and tear evaporation. Chloe's eyes never close completely and therefore are very dry, so an eye lubricant is needed to keep them moist and relieve the irritation. Fortunately, she loves being held and being attended to, so treating her eyes is no big deal at all! Chloe needs a gentle, caring, trusting person - a mirror of herself!....and daily doses of TLC. Could you be Chloe's person? |

ShansiFemale (spayed), Domestic Shorthair, Front-declawedDOB: 04/05/01 Shansi arrived at PAWS feeling confused about what was happening to her and looking very thin and frail. She decided the best thing to do was to hang out under the covers! But when a volunteer would spend time with her, she couldn't resist both giving and getting affection. She still likes to hide out a bit at the Center --silly girl -- but she’s ready and anxious to find the special person who will love her forever. Have some TLC and a home to share with Shansi? From foster mom – May 2008: Shansi is a really sweet, affectionate and friendly cat. She is very shy at first and hides her face as tho' she's not there. But once she's comfortable with where she is, she's a different cat altogether. Shansi is a lap cat who loves to be petted and brushed. She is low-energy and doesn't play much, preferring to sleep or be in a lap. She's perfect for someone who doesn't like having to "entertain" a pet. Shansi is front-declawed, but still goes through the motions of using her scratching post. She's very gentle, can be a little growly and hissy when upset, but has never tried to bite or swat at me. She uses her litterbox without fail, doesn't throw her food around, and has extremely clean habits. All Shansi needs is a home of her own! |

SparkyMale, Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 05/26/08 Sparky was rescued by holiday picnickers over the July 4th weekend. His favorite thing to do once he arrived at PAWS, besides try to get attention, was eat. Click to see larger photo for a glimpse of him back then. He was very thin and hungry. Now he's a budding and handsome young fellow. Here's what foster mom has to say about him: "Sparky lives in a home with several other cats and kittens and four dogs. He gets along well with everyone and even snuggles up for naps with the dogs. In fact, Sparky's very best friend is a dog! He is a very affectionate and playful kitten. He loves to sleep on his foster mom's lap or right next to her. He sometimes tries to "nurse" on people's necks and ear lobes. One look at Sparky's big round eyes and this adorable kitten will light a spark in your heart"! |

Sci-Fi Writer KittensDOB: 03/13/08Top row: Heinlein (M-neutered) and Clarke (M-neutered) Bottom row: Asimov (M-neutered) and Shelley (F-spayed) Want a friendly feline who is out of this world? Come in to meet our Sci-Fi kittens during open hours. These guys (and gal) want very much to find their forever homes. They're definitely out of this world cute!We were originally supposed to be The Shakespeare Kittens, but when we came to our foster home, we were so scared that we took to hiding on top of the books on the science fiction bookshelf. So…we became The Sci-Fi Writer Kittens. We all have since come out of our shells and are enjoying life in our foster home, but we’d sure love to find permanent homes! We’ve been exposed to an adult cat and a dog and have taken it in stride. Heinlein (Robert A. Heinlein)The ExplorerHeinlein is the Explorer. He loves to check out the house and seems unfazed by everything that is going on around him. He’s not much of a jumper, but loves to go around in circles chasing his toy until he’s dizzy!Clarke (Arthur C. Clarke)The DaredevilClarke is the daredevil of the bunch with no piece of furniture unscalable and willing to jump for any toy. He’s a bit of a toy hog, but very sweet and loving with people.Asimov (Issac Asimov)The PouncerAsimov is less outgoing than his brothers, but full of energy and personality. He likes to hide in the corner or behind obstacles until the toy goes past and then pounce on it from behind.Shelley (Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein)The GirlShelley is the only girl, living with three boys. She used to be afraid to play with her brothers, but has learned to play with them and makes sure that she gets her share of the food! Shelley is very sweet, soft and actually likes to be picked up most of the time. She still cries when her brothers abandon her, but she would love to find a home….with or without the guys. |

Wylie
A Lonely Hearts Club Cat
Male (neutered), Domestic Shorthair
July 10, 2007 This handsome tuxedo is quite an armful, but a very lovable armful and a classic guy. Wylie is a very “comfortable” cat, not too active and not too stodgy. He loves companionship. He really watches the people around him and has a beautiful, clear green gaze from his charming little triangular face. He’s cuddly and likes to be near and touching his humans, although he isn’t what I’d call clingy either. Since he’s kind of quiet, I’d hate for someone not to notice him in the crowd, because he’s a really special kind of fellow. I think he’d easily be able to adapt to other cats in a household. Because of a previous infection, Wylie has a higher risk of developing urinary tract infections than the average cat. So his future companion will need to keep watch for any signs that he’s retaining urine (which could cause an obstruction), and feed him a prescription diet to prevent that. His current diet seems to suit him well and he likes both dry and canned food, with a slight preference for canned. Update - January 2008 Like so many cats who spend the week in foster homes, Wylie really dislikes coming to the Center and wonders why in the world he has to go through this routine every weekend. As a result, he can sometimes become a bit "snarfy" with people who are interested in him. To avoid gettin' on Wylie's nerves, foster mom advises prospective adopters not to hold him for too long -- a little is okay, but even at home, he has his limits. Wylie also doesn't like to have his fur ruffled for too long at a time. He's one of these fellows who likes attention and often seeks it out, but he'll let you know...with a swat...when he's had enough.

Springer and Kelly Reggie and Rosie The photos for these little talkers were taken by their foster mom in their foster home. Seis and SieteFemale (spayed), Domestic ShorthairDOB: Spring 2007 We're the girls with the big feet and we don't mind a bit. After all, we don't need to shop for shoes. We're also girls who are friendly and gentle. Seis (Spanish for six) and Siete (Spanish for seven) are polydactyl cats, meaning they have more than the usual number of toes on some of their paws. As you might guess, Seis has six and Siete has seven. Please ask a volunteer to identify these lovely ladies for you at the center. |

PaxFemale (will be spayed before adoption), Domestic Medium HairDOB: 11/01/06 Pax is as loving as she is beautiful. After raising a litter of kittens, she landed out in the world as a homeless cat. She so deserves the love and security of a home to call hers forever. |

CottonFemale-spayed, Domestic LonghairDOB: 04/01/01 Cotton came to PAWS with a very matted coat, much of which was shaved, but it is growing back in and she's returning to the beautiful cat both inside and outside that she is! Here's what her fosters have to say about her (Early November): "We have been fostering Cotton for about three weeks. When Cotton first came to our house she was very frightened and hid beneath the couch. She slowly came to trust us, especially my husband. Now, she sits on the couch and waits for affection!! She is a very loving and sweet cat. Cotton greets us with the sweetest meow and purring but still a little reluctant until you hold or brush her. Cotton tolerates our two resident cats and our German Shepherd dog. She eats well and is a very clean cat and had no litter box problems. She will need brushing from time to time because of her long white hair. She will allow us to brush her but may bite, but not hard, when you brush her underneath and behind area. If we did not have two cats and a dog we would consider keeping Cotton." |
