How You Can Help PAWS
Hot Cats!
The color of the points on Siamese cats is actually related to their body heat. Cool areas, such as their ears, noses, and tails, are darker. Warm areas, such as their legs and trunk, are lighter. This is why Siamese kittens are born white. The heat inside the mother's uterus gives all their body parts about the same warm temperature.

Barney
Barney's bio at the time of adoption: Hello! My name is Barney. I am a friendly 2-year-old Beagle mix who weighs 35 pounds. I came to Centre County PAWS from the Huntington Humane Society. I was originally found as a stray, so the PAWS volunteers don't know too much about me quite yet. At this point, it is unknown how I am around other dogs and cats. Since I was a stray, I will only be placed in a home with older children or no children. In my foster home, I am working on house breaking and crate training. I will need to be neutered prior to adoption. I am living in a foster home, so I can be seen at PAWS during the Sunday showings from 12pm to 2pm. ADOPTED 2/5/2012

Copper
Copper's bio at the time of adoption: Hello! My name is Copper and I am a friendly 5-year-old neutered Red Bone Coonhound mix who weighs about 60 pounds. I came to PAWS from the Huntingdon County Humane Society; however, I was originally found as a stray. I am good with other dogs, but I am not so good with cats. I am a very strong dog and I tend to pull on the leash when on my regular Martingale collar because I am very scent driven. However, I am currently working on my leash training through the PAWS Pet Partner Program and walking very nicely with my Gentle Leader. I am also working on the basics of house breaking. Since I was found as a stray, the volunteers at PAWS think that it would be best to place me in a home with older or no children. I am proud to announce that in my foster home, I behave like a true gentleman. I don't bark at all, unless I am asked, “Do you want to go outside?” That makes me very excited and so I run straight to the door! When I am left alone in the house, I behave very well. My foster mom and dad are working with me on crate training. It's new to me, but I'm smart and brave, so am learning quickly. I am also a real snuggle bug! I LOVE to cuddle on the couch, but I am also perfectly happy when lying on the floor. I am living in a foster home, so I can be seen at PAWS during the Sunday showings from 12pm – 2pm. ADOPTED 1/17/2012

Courage
Courage's bio at the time of adoption: Hello! My name is Courage. I am an energetic 2-year-old spayed Yellow Lab/Golden Retriever mix who weighs 42 pounds. Previously, I have lived with other dogs, children, and cats. Even though I am very friendly, I may do best in a home with older children because I have a lot of energy and tend to jump up. I also wouldn't mind a home with just adults. I was rescued from a bad situation where I was not allowed to go out regularly, so I will need a refresher on house breaking in my new home. I will also need to work on the basics of crate training. I am living at the center, so I can be seen any time that PAWS is open! ADOPTED 1/29/2012

Elena
Elena's bio at the time of adoption: Hi there! My name is Elena. I am a very sweet 9-year-old spayed Lab mix who weighs 63 pounds. I came to Centre County PAWS from the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society. I was originally found as a stray in Altoona, so I will only be adopted out to a family with older or no children. I am good with both dogs and cats. I am a very smart girl and already know several commands, like "drop it" and "sit". I am also both house broken and crate trained. I walk well on a leash, but I need to be walked with a harness because I cough when wearing a regular collar. I also ride nicely in the car. Even though I am older, I certainly do not act like it. I am extremely playful and I love to play fetch. I am also a very affectionate girl and love to be petted. I am living in a foster home, so I can be seen at PAWS during the Sunday showings from 12pm to 2pm. ADOPTED 1/22/2012

I came to Centre County PAWS from the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society. Although, I was originally found as a stray, so I will only be adopted out to a family with older or no children. Fred
Fred's bio at the time of adoption: Hello! My name is Fred and I am a 4-month-old Border Collie mix who weighs 26.9 pounds. I am a very nice and friendly boy, but I have been a little scared since my owner went into the hospital. Because of this, I would prefer that people approach me calmly and slowly. I am good with children and with other dogs. At this point, it is known whether I would be good with cats or not. In my foster home, I am working on my house breaking and crate training skills. Therefore, I am looking for a family who will be willing to continue working on these skills with me. My foster family reports that I walk nicely on a leash. I will need to be neutered prior to adoption. Since I am living in a foster home, I can be seen at PAWS during the Sunday showings from 12pm to 2pm. ADOPTED 2/19/2012

Ginger Bread
Ginger Bread's bio at the time of adoption: Hi! My name is Ginger Bread and I am a very sweet 5-year-old spayed Beagle mix. When I came to PAWS, I was going through a very difficult time. Both my owner and the other dog that I lived with passed away. This made me very sad! I thought that I had found my forever home when I was rescued from a landfill as a puppy, but once again I am looking for a home. I have never been around young children, so I will only be placed in a home with older or no children. I am good with other dogs, I have never met another dog that I didn't like. I am so mellow that practically every dog becomes my buddy. I am very curious of cats and tend to chase after them, some of them might warrant a bark or two. I am a very smart girl and already know several commands, including how to shake hands... er, paws! I am house broken and am doing very well learning the basics of crate training in my foster home. In my previous home, I was allowed to roam around outside during the day; however, my foster parents have no problem leaving me out in the house. I do not jump up on furniture, but am happy to snuggle when I am invited. I love going on walks and do not pull on the leash. I am perfectly happy going at whatever pace my foster parents set. I am living in a foster home, so I can be seen at PAWS during the Sunday showings from 12pm to 2pm. Click on my picture to see even more photos of me!

Oreo
Oreo 's bio at the time of adoption: Hello! My name is Oreo and I am a 2-year-old Husky/Pointer mix who weighs 55 pounds. I came to Centre County PAWS from the Central PA Humane Society. I was surrendered by my owners because I was too big for the family. Even though I may be big, I am very friendly and get along with children, other dogs, and even cats! I am also both house broken and crate trained. Right now, I have very bad dry skin, which the PAWS volunteers are helping me with a proper diet that includes fish oil. I am also thin, so I will need to put on a little bit of weight. Prior to adoption, I will need to be neutered. I am living in a foster home and can be seen on Sundays from 12-2pm! ADOPTED 2/21/2012

Otis
Otis's bio at the time of adoption: Hello there! My name is Otis. I am a very sweet 12-year-old neutered Beagle mix who weighs 47 pounds. I am very calm, so I would make an excellent companion for anyone! I am good with children, other dogs, and even cats. I am house broken, but I still need some work on crate training. When I am left in a house alone, I behave perfectly. I was surrendered to PAWS because I was living in an apartment and had separation anxiety. Because of this, I became very stressed in a crate. In my new foster home with two other dogs and a cat, I have not shown any signs of separation anxiety. Therefore, I think that I would do best in a house with another pet. Even though I am an older gentleman, I still have lots of energy and LOVE to take long walks. I am living in a foster home, so I can be seen at PAWS during the Sunday showings from 12pm – 2pm. I was originally living outdoors as a farm dog, so I will need to learn the basics of house manners, like house breaking and crate training. I am good with other dogs and I am even good with cats. Due to my size, the volunteers at PAWS think that it would be best to place me in a home with older children unless younger children are used to having such a large dog in the household. I will need to be neutered prior to adoption. I am living at the center, so I can be seen anytime that PAWS is open! ADOPTED 1/8/2012
