Large dogs do not intimidate her and she likes other cats. She moves so smoothly that it's almost without any sound. Her favorite toy is the plastic ring from a plastic milk container. She hides them under the rug. She likes to snuggle and be held once she's comfortable with you and will follow you around the house. She needs to be loved and in her forever home. She'll make a wonderful companion." ADOPTED 2/9/08 |

ArielAriel's bio at the time of adoption: Female, Domestic ShorthairAge: ~9 months (April 2008) Bright-eyed, beautiful and sweet! Here's her first report from current foster mom: I am a fun-loving, outgoing girl who’s usually very busy. I love to explore every inch of my home, and although I’m not interested in going outside, I love to watch through an open screened window, feel the breeze in my face, and daydream about chasing the birds and squirrels in the tree line in my backyard. But when I’m done exploring and watching, there’s nothing I like better than curling up in foster mom’s lap or in her arms on the desk while she types on the computer.

Betty and WilmaBetty and Wilma's bio at the time of adoption: Females, DOB: 06/07Betty is the shiny black and white domestic shorthaired kitten in the photo. Wilma is the steel gray longhair. October 25, 2007 "True to their Flintstones namesakes, Wilma takes the lead in most things and Betty happily follows behind. They have made remarkable progress in their foster home, gradually losing their shyness, purring immediately, now grateful for the love and affection heaped upon them. Wilma and Betty love to be brushed, petted, and even held for short (but gradually increasing) periods of time. They can be easily handled for nail clipping or other necessary grooming/sanitary functions. Their curiosity is starting to show and both have learned that playing can be lots of fun, Wilma on the floors and chairs with her toys, Betty taking a break from the toys to see how high she can climb. In their foster home, the girls have become closer and more affectionate with each other, making them a perfect pair for adoption, but they can also be adopted separately and will do well." -- Foster mom Betty and Wilma like to be side by side looking out at the world of the cattery when they are at the PAWS center during adoption days. Please click for the larger photo to see these two lovely young ladies looking out on the wider world in their foster home. ADOPTED 2/9/08 |

ConnieConnie's bio at the time of adoption:A Lonely Hearts Club Cat
Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair Hi, my name is Connie; my foster mom likes to call me Con-con. I don't know why she calls me that, but I don't really care that much. Although sometimes I may seem grumpy at the Center, I really am quite a love--HONEST! I don't want to make excuses for myself, but let me explain just a little. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed in new or noisy situations--I think you humans would classify me as an introvert. I really like to meet people, but I just need to get to know you a little more slowly than some cats would. Although this may seem weird to you, I like to smell who you are--that is how we can meet. Yes, contrary to many people's theory about me, I am very shy.
Ya finally did it Con Con......you conned foster mom into saying, Con Con, you've found yourself a home dear girl...right here and forever! Have a long and happy life with crazy mom! ADOPTED 2/29/08

DiorDior's bio at the time of adoption: Male (neutered), Domestic LonghairDOB: 06/01/03, Front declawed Hello: My name is Dior. They tell me it has something to do with a famous designer. :) My foster mom has trouble remembering my name, but she tells me what a handsome boy I am! Unfortunately, my humans had to bring me to PAWS due to health issues in the family. They are very sad and I am very sad…..there was just no other choice. They will tell you that I’m very friendly and affectionate and my litterbox habits are superb. Thank goodness PAWS is here for me while I look for a new home. I love to give my foster mom head-bumps and rubs against her face. Once my motor gets started, it goes on forever. I’ll just weave in and out of your legs all the while you pet me. I hope you give me a chance to show you how grateful I’d be if you take me into your home forever. My heart will purr on and on while YOU give ME head bumps and lots of kisses! Love, Dior ADOPTED 2/9/08 |

DukeDuke's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair~D.O.B. 2-9-07 A really handsome guy with tabby markings on his head and tail. From Duke’s foster parents February 2008 It has been about 4-5 months since Duke started hanging around our house and about 1-1/2 months since we brought him inside, so we've gotten to know him fairly well. When he was outside, he always came running to greet us when he heard us approaching the house. He seems to very much want a family of his own and he has adopted us for the time being. Duke is a very affectionate cat, and although he has not directly interacted with our cats, we think that he’d be good with other animals. Because our cats are older and set in their ways -- and because our three are finally getting along after many trials and tribulations! -- we decided to keep Duke on our large enclosed porch. But he can sort of interact with our cats through the windows and glass doors to the porch and he seems to want other animal friends. We have also seen him with another neighborhood cat and he was very good with that cat. As far as his relationship with us, Duke is always excited when you pet him and he lets us pick him up regularly to pet him. He also loves to play with toys -- we made him a string with a bell and he loves it -- plus, he'll dance in circles for his food, he gets so excited! We have only good things to say about Duke's personality. He's affectionate with people, he very much likes being petted, he's always excited to see us, and he's very good with us. ADOPTED 3/19/08

He purrs when you hold him. He purrs when he looks at you as if to say: 'I just love you!' He pets your face with soft paws. He never uses his claws. He's a calm kitty and would love nothing more than to sit on your lap while you read or watch TV. He likes to play with pens and pencils and kitty toys of all kinds. If you want to play, he'll play; if you want to sit, he'll sit with you. He just wants to be where you are. He's a very easy cat to love." ADOPTED 2/2/08 |

Estimated DOB:10/01/07 Gretel (sitting up) is the gorgeous torbie and white female. Estimated DOB: 9/01/07 Hansel and Gretel make us think of a little boy, a little girl, gingerbread houses, white pebbles and bread crumbs. Our little boy and little girl are of the feline variety, their house is a cage or a foster home, and they are still waiting for their fairytale ending. Extremely close and devoted to each other, they are typical kittens. They love to play, take naps curled up on top of each other, and are very affectionate lap cats. Although not siblings, they are the perfect brother/sister combo. MiracleMiracle's bio at the time of adoption: Female, Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 02/14/05 February 21, 2008 Hi -- My name is Miracle. The volunteers at PAWS couldn’t help but name me Miracle after they heard about all the hardships I’ve been through. As you can ‘see‘, no pun intended, I’ve lost an eye. Don’t let that fool you. I don’t even notice it’s not there. It’s just my way of winking at you! You would think after all the things that have happened to me, which aren’t very pleasant, I would be scared of everything. Not so….I love people. I even like the resident cat where I’m currently living. We hang out a lot . There also are a couple of dogs here, and they’re ok, too. You will notice that my purr-box goes full speed when I get comfortable with you. I really like rubbing up against faces and just receiving lots of attention. I adapt quickly to any place I go, because I know how lucky I am to be alive. Not only do I have the people at PAWS and my foster mom who love and care about me, but I know I have a guardian angel; otherwise, I wouldn’t even be here! Love, Miracle ADOPTED 4/4/08 |

OreoOreo's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 10/11/04 Oreo is the mom of five kittens, Dixie, Pixie, Trixie, Brooks, and Dunne, all of whom have gone on to adoptive homes of their own. Oreo was very thin when she came to PAWS, having been rescued from life as a "single mom" living paw to mouth....so to speak. The fact that her babies all were healthy and strong is testament to her protective devotion and care. Oreo and her family spent time in one of our colony rooms and adjusted quickly to life on the inside. Oreo decided she much prefers being top cat on a fuzzy indoor cat tree than on one with leaves and bark! When you meet this gorgeous cat, you will see immediately how she got her name. She's got little round black circles surrounded by white on both of her sides. Her nest now empty, Oreo is most deserving of a life of leisure in her very own loving home. ADOPTED 2/16/08 |

Princess PeachPrincess Peach's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 03/06/06 Princess Peach was the first momcat to arrive at PAWS this spring, and a devoted mom she was to her three handsome little boys. She was a protective mom, too, which made her very wary of people. In a foster home for the past several months, Peachie is still very shy but has progressed a lot. She absolutely LOVES to be petted and will purr and purr….and purr. She’s getting braver and will at times now approach her foster mom asking for attention. She reached a significant milestone at the end of October, when she allowed foster mom to hold her for the first time without getting upset. Peach is very scared at the center, but loves one-on-one attention so long as the person is gentle and goes very, very slowly. There have been no conflicts with foster mom’s other cats and Peach keeps her distance from the dogs, but will tolerate nose sniffing! Princess Peach is a very gentle, quiet girl who will blossom in a quiet home with someone willing to let her come along at her own pace. Each week she shows that she trusts her foster mom a little more and is starting to look forward to their interactions. Pretty Peach is deserving of her very own loving home. Please open your heart to this lovely momcat And take note of her gorgeous golden-orange eyes! ADOPTED 1/6/08 |

ReganRegan's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair; microchippedDOB: 06/03/03 Looking for the gentlest of giants? the mellowest of yellows? Well, look no further! Head straight on down to Wiscoy in State College and meet Regan (if you choose to spell his name “Reagan”, he won’t mind). Regan has had a rather colorful history....a life that’s taken so many twists and turns that many cats, by this time, would be unnerved. What in the world is going to happen next? Some cats might even squirrel themselves away in a dark corner for awhile and simply chill. Not our Regan….this guy has mastered the art of going with the flow and is always happy to meet someone new….new people, a new dog, a fellow feline. Although Regan has spent most of his life so far (at least the life we know about) with men and, most recently, with a large, kindly dog, he crawled right into PAWS volunteer Mary’s lap at Wiscoy shortly after he arrived. He allowed another volunteer to trim his nails with nary a whimper, and went peacefully with yet another volunteer to the vet for a combo test (he tested negative for both feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus). To our knowledge, he has never experienced life with children, but we have little doubt he’d do just fine with kids. Regan lived outdoors, pretty much fending for himself, for quite some time. More recently, he spent his time both indoors and outdoors, “helping” with the gardening and yardwork, playing with his “bud”, the dog, probably even helping to plow the snow! So we suspect he’d prefer his new life to include at least some safe, supervised outdoor time. He would never again want to be outdoors at night – he wants to sleep in a nice soft bed, preferably with his person – and, of course, he suggests that you don’t let him outside until he’s comfortable with you and his with his new home. If you want a mellow yellow, go meet Regan and do it very soon. He won’t be with us for very long! ADOPTED 4/9/08 |

RosieRosie's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Medium hairYOB: 2005 Adopt a momcat, please! October 20, 2007 From Rosie, via foster mom: “Hi. My name is Rosie and I would love very much to go home with you. Because I’m soooo shy at the Center (look for me curled up in ‘Sunshine’s Spa’), you probably won’t believe it when I tell you I can purr very loudly and I love to be cuddled. I get along well with all the cats I’ve met so far, and I love to play with toys. I was a mom this past Spring (would you believe, all three of my kids were orange!). My children all have found good homes, thanks to PAWS, and now it’s my turn. I am very neat and clean and have NEVER missed the litter pan. I would love to give someone like you a lifetime of happiness and snuggles.” -- Rosie ADOPTED 2/2/08 |

Though they get into a lot of kitten-type trouble....ahem...mischief....they also are very affectionate and loving and definitely are lap cats. SandmanSandman's bio at the time of adoption: Male (neutered), Domestic Shorthair~DOB 11/09/02, front-declawed Sandman is a handsome, friendly and affectionate fellow. Quite vocal too! For several months, he was cared for by a group of university students who found him hanging out at the PSU deer pens. How he ended up there we'll never know, but as winter approached, his caretakers knew it was time to find him a warm place to go and a lifetime home. Sandman hadn't been with us for very long before he and all of our other cats and kittens went on "Christmas vacation" in foster homes during the three weeks that the adoption center was closed. And almost immediately upon his return in January, he was off and away to his new home. We hardly got to know ye, Mr. Sandman! ADOPTED 1/12/08 |

SkylarSkylar's bio at the time of adoption: Female-spayed, Domestic ShorthairAge in Feb. 2008, 6 years "Skylar" means providing shelter, and our Skylar is temporarily sheltered at PAWS while looking for her forever home. Skylar is very people-oriented and follows foster mom around wherever she goes, being the kind of kitty one of our volunteers refers to as a "love sponge." She will soak up as much love as you can give her, and then looks at you with those big beautiful eyes asking for more. She purrs pure contentment, is extremely affectionate, and is "a piece of cake" to handle, whether it's for grooming, medicating, relocating, holding, whatever you have in mind. Aware of her slow metabolism, but striving for the girlish figure she once had, Skylar is working toward a goal weight a few pounds lighter than she is now. With her determination and a little help from foster mom, she'll get there! In the meantime, she's looking for a family who will appreciate her loving ways and will love her in return. Maybe you can give Skylar her shelter forever! ADOPTED 3/8/08 |

SophieSophie's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 05/01/06 From foster mom February 2008 Sophie is definitely a homebody. Like so many cats, she does not like to be picked up but is very, very affectionate when you are down on the floor with her. She rolls over and likes to have her belly petted and purrs away. She will crawl onto someone's lap and stay there to be petted….until she decides it’s time to do something else. :) Life is on Sophie’s terms, so she probably should not be placed in a household with children. She would do best in a calm, soothing and quiet atmosphere...not in a busy household for sure. Sophie likes women but is a little afraid of men because she does not have a lot of experience being around them. I think she would readily adjust to a male with a gentle personality. Most of all, she needs an indoor home. Being outside is too much commotion for her...the world is just a little too big. Sophie is very loyal to people and adjusts to being around other cats. She’d do fine in a household with dogs although they may startle her at first. She does startle easily with any interruptions in her routine...she gets that concerned look on her face. (We often see that “concerned look” during Sophie's weekends at the Center). I think her reaction to disruption is to isolate herself from what is going on… which does not help when someone is trying to get to know her. But I can tell you that in the right home – a calm, gentle, quite home -- whoever adopts Sophie will be very pleased …they will have no regrets about choosing her. ADOPTED 3/15/08 |

SpiceSpice's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 09/01/99 No, I'm not one of THE Spice Girls - I'm one of the "Sugar, Spice and everything nice girls". I'm the oldest orphan -- 8 yrs. -- and it's been really, REALLY hard, after all these years, finding myself without my mom. I'm a friendly and sweet girl, and the PAWS volunteers tell me I'm quite lovely. It helps to hear nice things like that. One thing I really didn't like about this temporary home -- and I hope it's VERY temporary -- is the noisy door on this little cubicle they call my "cage." It scared me to death when someone opened or closed the door, so I begged the volunteers to just let it open. Since they've been doing that, I've ventured onto the two-level condo sitting right outside. I like sitting there in the open and am almost ready to jump down and explore the rest of my sunroom. There's some nice stuff in here....I just need a little more courage to go investigate. Maybe today. Update: Today has come for Spice. She's feeling much more at ease at PAWS, enjoying ALL the "nice stuff" in her room, and getting prettier by the day. "Oh Wow! TODAY really has come for me - today, January 19, I'm off to a new home and a whole new life!" -- Spice ADOPTED 1/19/08 |

SugarSugar's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 09/01/02 "Sugar and Spice and everything nice....that's what these girls are made of! " Like former housemates, Amber and Spice, Sugar suddenly found herself orphaned. For awhile, she was shy, sad and terribly confused by her new circumstances. She has become more at ease over time and now finds the various perches in her room much more appealing than remaining curled up in her bed all day long. If you speak softly to her, she's likely to come over for a chin rub or pat on the head, and if you listen closely, you'll hear a tiny purr sneak through. As you can see in her new photo, Sugar has become quite regal looking....thin at first, she's now the snowy white beauty we all knew she would be. She seems to think of herself as Queen of the Ball too! Sugar has come a long way since her arrival at PAWS. She's a real sweetheart! ADOPTED 3/2/08 |

Sweet PeaSweet Pea's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic shorthair~DOB: 08/01/06 Adopt a momcat, please! Sweet Pea is one of last year's very pretty young momcats. She had a litter of six kittens (the "flower children" we called them), all of whom have been adopted. November 11, 2007 From Foster Mom: SWEET PEA certainly lives up to her name. She is a “with you” not “on you” cat who loves to be around people and to be petted. Sometimes she’s a little wary of hands at first, so you’ll have to approach her very slowly and gently until she’s comfortable. She is not a lap cat (yet) and prefers not to be held. She is easy to pick up, however, so long as it’s for a very short time. Sweet Pea was found outside with her “flower kids” (we have no idea how long she might have been out), so she could feel trapped when being held – don’t really know why. Since her kittens were adopted, Sweet Pea has become very playful and enjoys playing with anyone who will take the time with her. Enjoying a second (or missed) kittenhood I guess! Sweet Pea is an extremely clean cat and doesn’t seem to shed much (at least so far). She doesn’t scratch or climb, but she does jump….very gracefully. She doesn’t get into mischief (a rarity for a young cat), likes to be brushed, and LOVES her treats. Sweet Pea has adapted easily to routines, is reasonably comfortable with the household dogs, and so far shows no interest in going outside again. But she has told us in no uncertain terms that she's not fond of other cats and would much prefer to be the ONLY CAT in the home. If you'd like a one-and-only, a regal lady who will be a great companion, come to the Center and meet Sweet Pea! ADOPTED 1/26/08 |

ZackZack's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair, Front declawedD.O.B. 4-2002 Five years ago, when he was just a teenager, this handsome fellow was named after Zack Mills, Penn State's promising young quarterback. Like his namesake, Zack the Cat had all the qualities of a winner -- he was smart, fearless, quick, an escape artist, patient and oh so cool under fire. Indeed, Zack was a cool, cool cat. And among other cats, he was a leader....especially at the "training table!" Over time, quarterback Zack seemed to grow weary, while Zack the Cat just grew…and grew. Hours at a “training table” will do that. :) Watch him play now and he’s a linebacker! (Penn State fans may want us to rename him “Poz”). Look out toys…and feet! The famous (or infamous) Zack Attack is as powerful as ever. But as he continues to win some and lose some in the game of life, Zack the Cat is ready to call his last play at the line of scrimmage and move on. His foster family has found him to be extremely affectionate, very people- and lap-oriented, and unusually gentle-natured for such a big guy. Thrown into a team sport by virtue of his name, Zack the Cat has grown weary of fending off the blitz or, in his 'backer role, sacking anything but his toys. He's telling us that he’d rather while away the hours coaching his humans in the fine art of nuzzling....without having to continually look over his shoulder for an approaching tackler. Yup, number one and only cat status and a life of lovin' will suit him just fine, thank you. ADOPTED 1/12/08 |
