Cats Adopted in 2004
Keegan and KenderKeegan and Kender's bio at the time of adoption: 8 yr. old, handsome as all get out, neutered, buff and white brothers and "buds." See if YOU can tell them apart! Allergies in their previous household brought them to PAWS, where they've been living without the benefit of a foster home to break the monotony. In the Center, K & K are bored to death. Two big boys crowded in a cage with absolutely nothing to do all day but...well, be bored. Unfortunately, to the potential adopter, a bored cat comes across as a boring cat...a stark contrast to the frisky, wide-eyed kitten one cage over. In a home environment, we can only guess. But consider two laid-back, bask in a ray of sunlight kind of guys who will be "low maintenance" additions to your family. No trouble, no curtain climbing, no need to keep them entertained. But try a wand toy or crackly ball and you just might unleash a bit of untapped "kitten" struggling to break free. You may be very surprised! Special diet required. Keegan and Kender must be adopted together.

AndyAndy's bio at the time of adoption: Andy and brother, Roger, are two of five kittens taken in by PAWS when they were just one week old. Their mom had given birth earlier this year, but the babies died due to her lack of milk. So Andy, Roger and their sisters were bottle-fed until they were six weeks old when they eagerly started munching solid food. Named after tennis champions, and thus fondly known as the "tennis kittens", sisters Serena, Lindsay and Wimbleton champ, Maria, all have completed their matches and gone home. Now for the mens' tourney! This is what Andy's and Roger's foster parents have to say: "We would like to emphasize that these kittens are very, very friendly and inquisitive. Roger (namesake, Federer), a tiny tiger, was the smallest guy during the first weeks of his life, and we almost lost him twice because he was so weak. Looking at him now, you would never know! Andy (namesake, Roddick) is a handsome black tiger. He and his brother are a joy to cuddle and play with. Both guys LOVE people and soak up attention. "In our home, Andy and Roger have become buddies with our two adult male cats, who passionately clean them and have taught them how to play chase and all that other good stuff that makes a cat a real cat. The three resident females have mostly resisted Andy's and Roger's charm attacks - hey, that's their loss, we think!
"Andy and Roger will fit into any home setting: a family with small children, a household with other animals - so long as their begging for love is answered…but then, it is just too hard to resist these precious creatures anyway." (Andy and Roger can be seen at the Center, or arrangements may be made to meet them in their foster home).

ArnieArnie's bio at the time of adoption: Hello! My name is ARNIE. Although I'm just shy of 3 yrs. old, I've used up several of my 9 lives already. Spent my early days homeless, just roamin' around lookin' for whatever I could find to eat, a place to sleep. Wasn't time to do much else. I kept hoping someone would take notice, see what a really fine boy I am, and take me home. I had SO much love to give, but not a soul to give it to! So much for "Arnie's dream".Instead, one awful day, some fool shot me in the face….a real bullet , mind you, not a pellet. The bullet passed through my cheekbone, sinuses and soft palate, leaving a gaping hole in the roof of my mouth, and exited through my neck. It's a miracle I'm still alive! I was in a WHOLE LOT of pain until a good person found me and took me to a doctor. I still have trouble eating and drinking…I wheeze and sneeze a lot in the process…'cause of that darned hole. And if that ain't bad enough, I'm now blind in my right eye. The vibration from the bullet, the doc hypothesizes, probably detached my retina. I'm scheduled for surgery very soon to repair the hole, but there's nothing much that can be done for my eye. In the meantime, some really nice people are caring for me and I like them a lot. Unfortunately, they can't keep me permanently. I'm a calm and quiet fellow and need my forever home to be the same. I can get along with most cats, but dogs scare me a little. If a dog is nice and calm around me, we could probably be friends. Same goes for kids. I'm shy at first (who wouldn't be given my history?), but once I get to know you and trust you, the possibilities are endless! With this surgery coming up, I can't go home with you immediately, but please don't forget about me. In fact, you can meet me now, say "Arnie, you have found your forever home and NEVER will be harmed again!", and then work with the PAWS people on the details. Meow.

AthenaAthena's bio at the time of adoption: "Impossible," you say. This is a kitten! This can't be a 3-year old (now spayed) mom! When she runs around the Center, Athea certainly looks like a kitten, plays like a kitten, and we sometimes get her mixed up with one of the kittens, but a mom she is. Athea and her girls, Nika (still looking for a good home too), Orenea and Calista, showed up as strays at a home already claimed by four strays who were staying. Very sorry, but no more room at the inn, pretty mom.Athea is a pretty, very smart and very sweet little (and we mean little) black and tan tabby. She has a way to softly let you know exactly what she wants, but she doesn't ask for much. Looking for a little gal you can hold? So many cats just tolerate the lap routine at best, but Athea goes limp in a lap and will stay there for as long as you want. She's also exceptionally neat…..doesn't shovel her litter all over, and when we go to clean her "house" at the Center, there's really nothing to clean! A quick scoop of the box and we're done. What more could you ask? This dear girl still has the spunk of a kitten and the look of a kitten, yet she's a mature, non-messy adult who communicates her needs tenderly but clearly and loves a lap. You've GOT to meet Athea!

BelkaBelka's bio at the time of adoption: Belka is a Russian Persian, one of a firstborn litter from two kittens brought to the US from Kazackstan. She is about 2 years old and a real beauty, inside and out, who is waiting for her coat to recover from two litters and the requisite nursing kittens that followed. She is a "Zen" cat...just looking at her has a calming effect on people. Her kitten, Mushka (Russian for "mouse"), was born in June of this year and is a Persian mix. Daddy was an American domestic large red tabby and white dude who used to live in the same house. Mushka is all white, like Mamma, but short haired.

BootsieBootsie's bio at the time of adoption: "Oh what a fine kettle of fish I got myself into! Actually, I wish I HAD a kettle of fish…or just a handful of cat kibble would do. You see, I've been high up in this tree for two days, and for the life of me, I don't know how I got up here which, presumably, is the same way I get down! No, the fire company won't come after me. The power company won't either?or the cable company?or any of the tree surgeons. They all think I'm perfectly capable of getting down on my own and that if they try to help, I'll just go higher...which I might if they scare me. Oh, oh - somebody's coming up?I don't know who it is…should I trust him? Should I go higher? Maybe I should just jump! Oh dear, what to do!?"Bootsie finally jumped, landed safely to the amazement of all watching, and from that moment on turned from being the shyest kid on the block to Ms. Sociability. This all happened at her former home, where she and companion Pepper lived for two years until their adoptive family "traded them in" for a baby. Cats will never understand this. After her tree adventure, Bootsie became a quiet, gentle, well-behaved 3 yr. old who loves being brushed to the point that she almost falls off of the perch in her cage when being groomed! She enjoys exploring the adoption center and has favorite spots by the windows, but only so long as no "meanies" are out at the same time. A couple of cats at PAWS have it in for Bootsie for some reason that we haven't quite figured out, so she's getting much appreciated weekday breathers in a foster home. Bootsie would be most happy in a new home with her lifetime companion, Pepper.

BristolBristol's bio at the time of adoption: Oh my, what a pistol, our little Bristol! High energy, rough and tumble, absolutely fearless, noisy when he doesn't get his way. But beneath that exterior of your "typical kitten" is the sweetest guy ever....and as most bundles of energy, Bristol settles quickly into sweet mode once he's had a chance to let off some steam.Bristol had some health issues when he came to PAWS, so for the first 6 weeks or so of his stay, he had to remain isolated from the other cats. His only "outings" were either trips to the vet or rides around the Center on a volunteer's shoulder. NOT a good way for a kitten to spend the most exciting time of his kittenhood…just ask Bristol! Yet he came to love the shoulder rides, and even though he now may run and play with the others, he still looks forward to being carried around. With his newly-found freedom, Bristol is way too active to be a "lap kitten" just yet, so we hope his adopter will continue the practice of toting him about several times a day. He loves the closeness, and this will be the bridge to his becoming an "everything you could possibly want in a cat" adult. Bristol is an 8-month old orange tabby male, recently neutered and given a clean bill of health by his doctor. Because of his very rough start, Bristol may not be declawed.

CharleyCharley's bio at the time of adoption: Hey, look what the wind blew in! Well no, not really. On the same weekend Hurricane Charley ravaged the state of Florida, some despicable "human" attempted to ravage this dear kitten. Charley (what else could we possibly name him that weekend?) was either hit by a car and the driver didn't bother to stop?or, more likely, was tossed from a car on a busy street. As his eventual rescuer drove by, she noticed two people hovering over an obviously injured kitten. The gawkers turned their backs and walked away.So Charley came into the Center frightened and hurting, huddled in the arms of the kind person who stopped to help him. When he tried to walk, all four legs splayed out from under him…he couldn't take a step. Now for the good news! Nothing broken or dislocated, no apparent internal injuries…but he sure got bopped pretty good. Charley stayed at a veterinary hospital over the weekend, where he started walking…one step then flop?two or three steps, flop. But he improved day by day, taking more steps at a time, and by the end of just one week, he was running (sideways sometimes with an occasional fall) after toys and playing under the bathroom door with one of the cats in his temporary foster home. Now staying with his very doting rescuer, Charley has turned into the playful, but extremely "grateful" and loving kitten he appeared to be from day one. After a scary, but very gentle introduction to foster mom's 3 dogs, Charley and one of the dogs vie for the same food dish! Charley's a lover, playful, very VERY brave and, it would appear, completely recovered. He's a kitten we would expect to do well in a variety of circumstances - with a single, doting mom or dad, a family with children, other cats and yes, dogs seem to be okay with him. Not to forget, Charley's a VERY handsome young fellow. One good thing to come out of Hurricane Charley - Charley the Cat!

ChelseaChelsea's bio at the time of adoption: It was a dark and stormy night. At last, here comes good ole Charlie Brown with my supper dish. What? The dish is empty?! And he's carrying one of those plastic things with a door! "I'm sorry, Snoopy," Charlie Brown said, as he put me in the plastic thing and then packed up my supper dish, my typewriter, house … everything I owned. "I've got allergies, Snoopy….the doctor says I must find a new home for you. You'll be okay. I'm taking you to the PAWS adoption center and they'll find a nice person to adopt you."Okay, so I'm making this up. I'm really Chelsea…a cat, as you can see, not a dog, much less the famous Snoopy. I'm a 6 yr. old black and grey tabby with lots of white, spayed, front declawed, current on my vaccines, had a recent dental. Sadly, my person did have to part with me due to a severe allergy. So why the Snoopy tale? Well, my favorite place to perch and observe the world is… are you getting it yet? Yes! On top of my doghouse…er...cathouse! You see, I have one of those covered latrines - don't know why - most cats hate them. But I make the PAWS people laugh, because in a floor-level cage, I'm almost invisible up there….until someone comes with my supper dish.
I'm a very sweet cat so I'm told. I like a lap and LOTS of attention. I'll do fine with another cat so long as I'm given time to adjust. Dogs, kids...I don't know. Never met one up close and personal. Because I'm front claw-less, I must always be kept indoors. If you don't have an allergy to cats and you're looking for Snoopy's kitty counterpart, come meet me at the PAWS Center. I'd really like to find a new and permanent home very, very soon.

CinnamonCinnamon's bio at the time of adoption: This girl remind you of anyone? Presuming almost everyone by now has seen Andrew Lloyd Webber's "CATS", remember old Grizabella, around whom the story unfolds? When poor Cinnamon came to PAWS, our first thought was "This is her! There really IS a Grizabella and she's here." Unlike Grizabella, though, Cinnamon's memories aren't of glorious days in the sun. Cinnamon spent the first four years of her life in a cattery cage doing what cats in cattery cages do. When she arrived at the Center, she really looked like the first picture we posted. Her coat was thin, dry, tangled and unkempt. She was not well. She was frightened, as you might expect, but we could tell that underneath the shabby exterior was a dear, sweet soul. Cinnamon is being treated for asthma, which means she can have a pretty rough time at the Center, but she has none of the other physical ills we expected to find. She is a beautiful, big, 6-yr. old Maine Coon, with penetrating jade green eyes and delightful ear tufts that, with her rusty color, give her the look of a bobcat. Cinnamon loves to be brushed and our volunteers love brushing her. Ever so slowly, her coat is thickening and beginning to shine….though it still has a way to go.We need to evaluate Cinnamon a little more thoroughly before she'll be ready for adoption, but her new picture reflects the progress she's making. In person, you won't recognize our Grizabella! We're confident now that her time in the sun will come.

Grab onto my tail, my leg something! You push and I'll try to climb. They are Manx mix, what we call "stumpies"... their tails are about 2 inches long and they have the "clownish" personalities of a true Manx. We promised the person who rescued them that we would try to place them together in the same home. They play well together and are very unusual, appealing kitties. EeyoreEeyore's bio at the time of adoption: Yes, you read that right. I'm Eeyore! Why anyone would name me after a gloomy old sawdust-stuffed donkey is more than I can fathom. Okay, Eeyore has his own website! Eeyore's got a fan club and all that, but for cryin' out loud?.he's still a donkey! I AM intelligent like him and usually pretty quiet, and yes, my house in the N. Atherton Street trailer park did come tumbling down. I lost my family in that unfortunate event?but I still have my tail! Eeyore the donkey never can find his tail!! And considering that I'm now residing in a cage at the PAWS adoption center and have an awful cold, I still think positive thoughts.I'm a two-year old handsome, neutered classic tabby. I spent some time with the person who rescued me from the trailer park when my family left me behind, and I just loved following her around and jumping on her lap soon as she sat down. I was a little shy at first…so much had changed?but soon I learned that the more affection I gave the more I got. That Pooh donkey, you may recall, spends most of his time alone in a thistly corner of the forest. He even eats the thistles! Gross! "The donkey thought sadly to himself, 'Why?' and sometimes he thought, 'Wherefore?'?and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about." I, on the other hand, know exactly what I'm thinking about. I'm thinking, "please, let me get over this cold." I'm thinking "cat food", no thistles thank you. But most important, I'm thinking "oh how I hope someone comes to the Center just to see me, spends time talking with me and says "Eeyore, you're the one. You're going home with me!"
(Eeyore facts, fiction and quote from eeyoreshideaway.com and "The Pooh Book of Quotations," A.A. Milne).

EricEric's bio at the time of adoption: Imagine the gasps of patrons of a local business when, on the Sunday before Labor Day, a rather large, grungy-looking cat hurled itself through the ceiling and crashed to the floor among them. Unhurt from the fall, but looking in not-too-good a shape generally, the cat was scooped up by employees who called PAWS.The sad story of "Eric" is that his owner, who lived in a small apartment above the business, had passed away suddenly five weeks before. People knew that the person had been caring for a cat, but when no cat was found in the apartment, they assumed he was no longer there. Exactly where Eric was for five weeks, we have no idea - he was hungry, disheveled and dehydrated, but not nearly as bad off as we expected when we heard his story. Did he have a way in and out? Possibly. Whatever the case, he very wisely decided it was time to make him self known to the world, and he sure did it with a bang! Eric is a medium-haired buff and white fellow, around 3 years old, neutered and very, very handsome now that he's all cleaned up. He's a laid back gentle soul who loves the attention he's getting at the Center and is nonplussed by all the activity going on around him. He seems easy to please and quick to adjust to whatever comes his way. What more could you want?

GoliathGoliath's bio at the time of adoption: Imagine a 9-3/4 foot tall thundering, formidable giant stalking the PAWS adoption center, striking fear in the heart of every cat and kitten, challenging every "David" to take him on. "Choose from among you to come fight me," he postures.Wrong image. On the contrary, our one-year old red tabby is a big guy, but not that big, and he's one of the gentler giants among our current residents. In fact, Goliath seems to be a pretty calm fellow no matter what's going on. He's been seen playing nicely with the smallest kittens, and doesn't appear to show any aggression whatsoever toward the other cats at PAWS. He'd rather sit back and observe life, minding his own business and never causing any trouble. Goliath has lived in two kennel situations prior to coming our way, so he's used to seeing and hearing dogs, although we have no idea whether he's ever interacted with one. Goliath came to us with one small glitch on his resume - he's known to do "love bites". "Love biting" is otherwise known as petting aggression, meaning that the cat will tolerate just so much stroking and then say, with a nip, "no more, please." A love bite rarely breaks skin, and a cat usually gives some clear signal that it's coming - a twitch of the tail, slight tensing of the body, maybe a turn of the head - so the "love bite" can be avoided by an alert owner. Few, if any, of the PAWS volunteers have gotten any love bites from Goliath, but he does have this on his rap sheet, so he may not be suitable for families with small children, elderly members or anyone who wants a lap cat he/she can pet and pet for hours on end.

HermioneHermione's bio at the time of adoption: Hermione is a 3-year old, short-haired dilute tortie who came to PAWS with a brood of 6 we fondly call the "Harry Potter kittens." You may remember their curious names: Hagrid and Hufflepuff, Quentin and Quiddich, Myrtle and Raven. The kittens have been in good homes for quite some time, but poor, dear Hermione unhappily continues to wait. Her foster mom had to leave the country on a family emergency, so Hermione's "reward" for her tender, attentive mothering is a boring, lonesome life at the PAWS Adoption Center. It just ain't fair!
Hermione is a very loving, pretty cat with an apple shaped head and a compact "cobbie" body, much like an English shorthair. She resists being pulled from her cage ("I can get out myself!" she snaps), but just open the door, wait for a bit, and she'll come to you begging to be petted and loved. Sunbathing beneath a window is guaranteed to put a smile on her face, but she also can be quite lively if you initiate the play. Hermione deserves the good life...and she deserves it very, very soon.

JorjaJorja's bio at the time of adoption: When she was a wee kitten, about 10 days old, Jorja was found in a window well crying her heart out. Jorja's mother had moved her brothers and sisters to a new location but never came back for her. She was hand-raised and bottle-fed by a PAWS volunteer until she could eat on her own. Early on, she became a companion for PAWS kitten, Matty, who had to be separated from his brother because "bro" was sucking on him inappropriately. Good heavens, "bro"! Jorja was older, but was very nice to little Matty. She is named after one of the volunteer's favorite characters on the TV show CSI ....Jorja Fox, who is the actress playing the very studious CSI agent. :-) Jorja is very social and should be placed with another kitten or in a home with other well-behaved animals in order to be happy. She is not a "loner".

LaceyLacey's bio at the time of adoption: From Lacey’s foster mom: Lacey is a beautiful 2-year old calico with big, expressive green eyes that look right at you when you speak to her. She is a very special young girl looking for a very special home. Abandoned last fall while she was pregnant, Lacey was rescued by a kind veterinarian's assistant and shortly thereafter joined the Paws family. She was a conscientious mom who raised three great kittens, now all in adoptive homes of their own. Lacey was spayed after the kids left, and is very anxious for someone to fall for her as quickly as everyone fell head over heels in love with her kittens. Lacey is absolutely sweet, loving and totally people-oriented. She appreciates cuddling, has a wonderful purr, and likes to rub your ankles. She's very smart and enjoys playing with toys and people. Other cats and dogs, however, are not her cup of tea, so Lacey would flourish best in a home where she could be "queen bee? Give Lacey a chance and she'll return your love in a big, big way. |

LancerLancer's bio at the time of adoption: Lancer. Prancer. Fast-break dancer! This high-spirited, 6-mo. old teen will keep you dancin' til you drop! Lancer is one of a family of 8 of the most fun-loving, bright-eyed, energetic kittens to come our way in a long time. Named for jet planes, based on the speed with which they took off from the room in which they were being fostered (while foster mom was trying to keep them in, of course), the 8 looked so alike and were so similar in temperament, who could tell them apart? As they grew, the males distinguished themselves by their size - these are going to be tall, long, lean adults - and from there, we used the different colored collar trick. At 8 weeks of age, the "jet babies" tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). They were dropped off at a local veterinary hospital to be euthanized…but who could even think it?!?! Recent research has shown that many kittens who test positive for FIV at this young age will revert to negative within 3-6 months. A PAWS senior volunteer can tell you why this happens.
