The constellation Canis Major, or The Great Dog, follows his master, Orion, through the Northern Hemisphere's winter sky. Sirius, also known as the Dog Star, is located on the shoulder of Canis Major. It is the brightest star in the heavens. Indeed, its name means "sparkling" or "scorching."

About PAWS

PAWS (Promotion of Animal Welfare and Safety) is an organization of members, volunteers and staff in Centre County, Pennsylvania, committed to: Butterscotch

* placing homeless cats and dogs into loving forever homes and making a lifetime commitment to each of these companion animals

* reducing companion animal overpopulation through spay/neuter programs and education

* promoting responsible pet care through education and by example

* acting as an advocate on behalf of companion animals

* building, nurturing, and respecting the human-animal bond, and

* proactively seeking new approaches in the effort to end the suffering of companion animals in our society caused by cruelty, neglect, or human apathy.

PAWS maintains a noneuthanasia animal shelter and administers a spay-neuter assistance program, an educational outreach program, and emergency medical aid funding.
